Wing Bwoi leans into romance on “Magical,” a melodic Afrobeats track centred on the feeling of finding someone who changes the direction of your life.

The song opens in English with Wing Bwoi asking, “Do you believe in a magical world?” before describing finding someone who has become a light in his life. He promises to treat her right and tells her that she was meant for him.

Much of the song is performed in Nuer, while the English sections make its romantic direction immediately clear. Wing Bwoi also uses the Nuer expression “nyamigoa,” meaning “beautiful girl,” as he sings affectionately to the woman at the centre of the song.

Even without understanding every Nuer lyric, “Magical” communicates its mood well. The warm Afrobeats production, Wing Bwoi’s melodic delivery and the accompanying visuals all reinforce the feeling of a love song.

The official music video is one of the release’s strongest elements. Its polished production and romantic imagery complement the record, giving “Magical” a visual presentation that feels particularly well put together.

If there’s one thing the song leaves you wanting, it’s more of it. At around two minutes, “Magical” finishes quickly, and another verse or even a guest appearance could have given the record more room to develop.

Still, what is there works. “Magical” is a beautiful, easy-listening Afrobeats love song, with Wing Bwoi delivering a simple romantic idea effectively and a high-quality music video helping bring that feeling to life.
